Market Comment
The Ukrainian equity market was bullish on Tuesday (Mar. 9) despite European indexes closing flat. Trading activity was extremely high on Ukrainian exchanges with a total turnover of UAH 71 mln. The UX index added 3.75% and the PFTS index grew 3.81%. Almost all liquid stocks were in heavy demand as investors were spurred on by signs of political stability in Ukraine.

Politics: Yatsenyuk rejects offer for “high post”
Event: Arseniy Yatsenyuk, former Speaker of Verkhovna Rada (Parliament), rejected an offer by President Viktor Yanukovych for a high position in the Cabinet of Ministers. An economist and lawyer, Yatsenyuk finished fourth in Ukraine’s 2010 Presidential Election and was shortlisted by the Yanukovych camp for the position of Prime Minister.

Macro: Both CPI and PPI increase 1.9% M-o-M in Ukraine
Event: Consumer prices grew 1.9% M-o-M reaching 11.5% Y-o-Y in February, the State Statistics Committee reported on Mar. 9. Producer prices also added 1.9% M-o-M reaching 16.3% Y-o-Y.

GenCos: Electricity consumption in Ukraine down 7.8% M-o-M in February
Event: Net electricity consumption in Ukraine was down 7.8% M-o-M (up 9% Y-o-Y) in February, Interfax reported March 5 with reference to the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine. According to the data, net electricity consumption in Ukraine was up 10.9% Y-o-Y in 2M2010. Most notably, the metals and mining sector upped its electricity consumption by 30.5% Y-o-Y in 2M2010.

Market Comment
Ukrainian equities rallied Friday (Mar. 5), the UX index rose 4.12% reaching 1950 points on record high volumes. The PFTS index added slightly less than 3%. The best performers among blue chips were BAVL (+6.8%), ENMZ (+6.89%), CEEN (+5.86%) and AZST (+5.57%). The only stock to decline in the UX basket was FORM, closing 1.26% lower after a strong performance earlier. Second tier names also traded higher with a UX total volume of more than UAH 87 mln.
