Market Comment
Ukrainian equity markets lost steam Wednesday (July 14). The UX index shed 1% on very low activity. Trading volume totaled a mere UAH 56 mln. All names in the index basket declined with the exception of Ukrsotsbank (USCB), which eked out a 0.37% gain.

GenCos: Ukraine raises gas tariffs for heat producers
Event: The National Electricity Regulatory Commission of Ukraine (NERC) decided to increase the ceiling on tariffs for natural gas consumed by heat producers. The decision was formalized by NERC resolution No. 813 dated July 13, Ukrainian News agency reported July 14. Affective August 1, 2010, the ceiling tariff for heat producers will constitute UAH 1,309/mcm, a 50% increase from the previous tariff of UAH 873/mcm.

Metals and Mining: Alchevsk Steel to report poor results for July
Event: According to Metal Courier news agency, Alchevsk Coke – the sole coke supplier for Alchevsk Steel – is operating at a capacity utilization rate of about 50%. Average daily metallurgical coke output in July is only 4.6 kt or 16% down compared to the second half of June. Planned output for July has yet to be achieved and coke is supplied to the abovementioned steel plants according to their day-to-day demand.
Impact: The news is negative for ALMK, DMKD and marginally negative for ALKZ.
